Shut up shop

It’s tempting to open windows wide in a heat wave. But when it’s really warm it only adds to the stuffy air. So keep windows, blinds or curtains closed until the sun goes down.

Cool Comfort

Make a ‘cold water bottle’ by filling your typical hot water bottle and placing it into the freezer. When you’re ready for bed, wrap your ice bottle in a thin towel and sleep like a penguin.

Turn up the heat

Oddly, a hot shower before bed cools your body temperature. Sure, a cold shower feels good in the short-term, but for longer lasting coolness, turn up the heat.

Banish Booze

A cold beer or glass of wine seems like the best idea. But alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate, making you feel hotter, and can leave you dehydrated. So sip on water (or even hot tea) instead.
